The Process of Formation
of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC):
A meeting of following members
designated as Core Committee under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble Vice
Chancellor was held on Tuesday, 3rd August 2004 for initial
planning.

Following issues were discussed:
1. Formation
of Internal Quality Assurance Cells (IQACs) at the levels of University and
constituent units.
2. Guidelines on formation and further
activities of IQAC-if any-in addition to the guidelines given by NAAC.
3. Review the suggestions and observations
of the Peer Team pertaining to University and constituent units, and implement
relevant actions.
4. Establishment of a broad-based committee
at University level for periodic assessment of University and constituent
units’ Quality Assurance work.
The Core Committee submitted its
report to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor on 23rd August 2004. As per
the recommendations of the Core Committee, IQAC was constituted at the
university level. Considering the wide scope of educational and research
activities of the University, number of experts from diverse fields from within
and outside the University was nominated to Internal Quality Assurance Cell
(IQAC).

The IQAC of the University in its
first meeting held on 1st September 2004 took up the issue of
focusing on the valuable suggestions made in the NAAC Peer Team Report 2004.
The members felt that by acting on those suggestions, the University can indeed
show significant improvements. Thorough deliberations followed on the Peer Team
Report and policies related to quality assurance. Accordingly, a plan of action
was finalized for the year 2004-05.
The plan of action was disseminated
to all the constituent units. The units were also advised to develop their own
plan of action specific to their faculty. The IQAC monitored
the activities of IQACs of constituent units throughout the year. On conclusion
of the academic year, reports generated by the constituent units’ IQACs were
reviewed by IQAC at its meeting held on Friday, 15th July 2005.
These reports were then compiled to draft the Annual Quality Assurance Report
(AQAR) of the University for the academic year 2004-2005.
PLAN OF ACTION
Plan of Action & Outcome:
1.
Prepare a five-year perspective plan of the
University.
After extensive brainstorming
sessions, a 5-year perspective plan for future growth and development of the
university was finalized in consultation with the constituent units.
2. Develop Quality Management System in
the University.
All
constituent units have established IQACs to monitor quality of educational
activities.
3. Adopt policy of vertical growth over
that of horizontal.
The
steps towards the vertical growth are being adopted by:
i.
Strengthening
the Research and Development component.
ii.
Collaborative
activities with academic and other organizations.
iii.
Introduction
of new academic programmes.
4. Focus efforts to make the University a
globally well-known institute.
i.
A
committee is being appointed to explore the options.
ii.
International
Students’ Cell was established. Extra efforts were taken to enroll more
international students.
iii.
Initiate
procedures for inclusion of colleges of Bharati Vidyapeeth under the ambit
Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University for uniformity and consolidation of
faculty-wise gains.
iv.
Directorate
was established for promoting sports activities.
v.
Directorate
was established for strengthening cultural activities.

Institute of Environment Education &
Research, Pune
·
The
programmes of the Institute include formal environment education, non-formal
educational activities presentation at conferences and research. These
independent spheres of activities have been integrated to augment the
effectiveness of all three components. The Institute runs a program in PhD,
Masters of Environment Science and Diploma in Environment Education.
·
Non-formal
environment education outreach initiatives, which included conducting training
workshops for teachers in environment education, programmes through trained
teachers, and developing locale specific environment education material were
taken. The institute also houses an Environment Museum and Activity Centre,
which is used by teachers and students as a teaching-learning resource.
·
The
research done at the institute focused on need- based issue of pro-conservation
action by arranging 10 field visits for Quadrate sampling, Wildlife population
count, Insect identification studies, Plant conservation, and to study
Ecotourism, wildlife conflicts and its management.

5) EXAMINATION REFORMS IMPLEMENTED
University
Examination Section undertook the following administrative reforms:
·
Replacement
of traditional sealing wax seal by non-removable stickers in order to make
question papers and other confidential material tamper proof.
·
All
strong rooms used for storing question papers are protected by grills and are
provided with special security.
·
Use
of special ink on Degree certificates to prevent malpractice.
·
Incorporation
of candidate’s photograph on the Degree Certificate.
·
Use
of sophisticated fast scanners with software for in-house printing of degree
certificates.
·
Eight
papers under each elective criterion and two Departmental Papers per programme
per semester are introduced which are evaluated internally for Management
faculty.
·
New
examination pattern has been introduced as per the new syllabus of BHMS.
·
Two
class tests were introduced for every subject in semester-I, as well as,
continuous evaluation system was introduced in practical courses in the faculty
of Engineering.

Websites
of the University and of the constituent units are upgraded with the latest
technology.

Medical College, Pune, CCTV installed in the Operation Theatres. Several new
equipment such as ventilator, multi-para monitors, autoanalyzer, etc. were
installed for better services to patients and training.

Our Dental College & Hospital, Pune: Hard and soft tissue laser
equipment was acquired for use by multiple departments.

The
services of Medical College Hospital, Dental College Hospital, Homoeopathy
College Hospital and Ayurved College Hospital are made available to all the
students, staff members (teaching and non-teaching).

Scheme is in operation for all the teaching and non-teaching staff and their
families with nominal contribution.

All
the foreign students were medically examined and screened with laboratory
investigations.
·
The
University through its own hospitals organized health check-up for all the
newly admitted students.

B vaccination provided to students and staff of health sciences with a view to
protect them against professional risk.

IN SPORTS ACTIVITIES
Students of constituent units are
encouraged to actively participate in sports at all the levels. Some of the
students have excelled at various inter-university, state and national level
events. 13 students won in individual events, while 41 students were members of
winning teams.

OF THE GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING UNIT

is a routine practice in this university to obtain student feedback about the
facilities like faculty, teaching programmes, academic calendar, teaching
methodology, etc. Students having difficulties of academic, communication,
personal and psychological nature are identified and are given special
attention and assistance.

the HR system consultant conducted a seminar on, ‘Career opportunities in
Business Process Outsourcing Industries’ on Erandawane Campus of the BVDU.

1-day
seminar for students on ‘Placement Opportunities in Service Industry like Air
lines, Hotels, Air Catering, Multinational Companies and Call Centers’; Intel
workshop on ‘Unwire Your Future’; and Seminar conducted by Air Hostess Academy,
Pune on ‘Opportunities in Aviation and Hospitality Industry.

personality development and interview technique.

PROGRAMMES FOR NON-TEACHING STAFF

The
non-teaching staff in the University and the constituent units is given
training in various fields such as, Organizational Management, Computer operation,
Accounts software etc.

The
family members of the non-teaching staff are given preference in employment and
children are given fee concession.
·
There
is a system of promotion for higher administrative posts.
·
A special training was given to the non-teaching
staff of the College of Physical Education, Pune on marking of play grounds.
·
College of Engineering, Pune had organized two training programmes on
maintenance of CRE laboratory for the technical staff and on communication
skills for the non-teaching staff.

Two
sessions were organized by the Institute
of Management, Kolhapur on Computer basics and Accounting software.

as early as August 2002. The cell holds regular meetings and plans and reviews
the activities. A Student Handbook containing all relevant information,
academic calendar, and rules and regulations has been prepared and distributed
among students. Domain wise departments were formed and decision-making was
decentralized leading to better functionality.

provided. Conducted Lectures on Spoken English and Communication Skills for
foreign students. Centre for Women’s Legal Studies for general population is
actively engaged in creating awareness about Role of Women in Law for
maintenance and family disputes through its Counseling Centre. Advice is given
free of cost.

Active efforts for promotion of ‘Body donation drive’ and access to anatomy
museum for school children and BVU institutes. ‘Garbh Sanskar’- a programme for the would be

Continuation of practice of offering academic counseling to weaker students.
Coaching in English language to 1st tear students to improve comprehension of
dental subjects. Faculty members enrolled for PG programme were provided the

Pune: A total of 17 committees have been
constituted to plan and monitor various curricular, co-curricular,
extra-curricular and administrative activities of the institute. Out of these,
