Overview
Botany Department is one of the earliest departments in the BVDU university. It was established in July
1978, in which under graduate teaching was started from the establishment of the department.
The main trust
area of teaching and research are Plant Physiology, Cytogenetics, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Breeding,
Horticulture, Environmental Botany, Aerobiology, Phycology, Anatomy and Embryology, Plant taxonomy and
Systematic Botany. Teaching activities include under graduate semester course and research programmes. The
department has made a steady progress in all these areas. The department also provides training to students
from various parts of the country and invites eminent scientists for delivering popular scientific talks
very often. The department has distinction in having its alumni placed at various respectable positions all
over the globe. The departmental library has a significant number of books, periodicals and subscribed
journals. Well established laboratories in botany. In Botanical garden some rare, endangered and
threatened medicinal plants are conserved and preserved. Study tours and projects as a part of our
curriculum of departmental activities. The department has been identified for a special assistant grant by
various funding agencies including UGC, Ministry of Environment and forest, New Delhi, BVDU and National
Medicinal Plant Board, New Delhi. The faculty members of the department have received research projects
funded from various agencies.
