Overview
The Department of Microbiology was established in the year 1992. Today it runs undergraduate (B.Sc. Microbiology), post graduate (M.Sc. Microbiology) and Ph D. course in Microbiology. Dr. G.V.Mali is a recognized research guide of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University and students are pursuing research under his guidance for Ph.D. degree.
Students from all states of India and abroad prefer this Department for the undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Alumni of this department are well placed and many have gone abroad for their higher studies (Doctoral or post doctoral research).
In addition to the research, faculty is active in participating in the internationally recognized community forums viz. Association of Microbiologists of India, Microbiology Society of India, World researchers Associations, Institute of Scholars and other research and academic groups. Faculty also has developed resources for the Microbiology community in the form of books and e-learning content. The Department promotes exploring MOOCs / SWAYAM courses by the UG and PG students. The department has organized national level seminars/workshops/conferences on emerging topics, has completed 6 research projects sponsored by government funding agencies such as UGC. Interaction with industry, various academic and research institutions of national and international repute are mediated through collaborative students projects. A complete semester is dedicated to research projects and / or internship is a unique feature of M. Sc course.The department has also conducted vocational course in Industrial Microbiology and now plans to expand its work in the areas of research and vocational courses (job oriented courses) which will definitely form a bridge and fill gap between industry and academic institute.
