Two days national seminar “Researching in Computer Science and Applications"on22nd  and 23rd  Feb.  2010

The department of computer science had organized two days national seminar on the topic “Researching in Computer Science and Applications” from 22nd  to 23rd  Feb 2010 .The seminar was inaugurated at the auspicious hands of  Dr.S.Sundarajan,MD,Altius Technologies. Former Vice-Chancellor of Bharati Vidyapeeth University Dr.S.F.Patil was the chair person.Prin.K.D.Jadhav felicitated Dr.Sundararajan and Dr.S.F.Patil on this occasion.This seminar was co-ordinated by Prof.S.S.Shukla .
The focus of seminar was to motivate research activities among students and teaching faculty members.Mrs.S.S.Shukla welcomed the participants and stated the objective of the seminar.Mrs.S.R.Jagtap introduced the chief guest Dr.S.Sundararajan .In his key note address ,he emphasized on the research work in diversified area.As computer touches almost every field so the research should aim in the benefit of the society as a whole.
Prin.K.D.Jadhav introduced Bharati vidyapeeth,Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University to the guests.He also gave an brief account of the activities carried out in the college .Mrs.J.S.Ghadge was the anchor person for the inaugural function.Vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs.Y.V.Bhapkar.

The first session was conducted by Dr.M.S.Prasad(Director-MCA Programme) B.V.U.I.M.E.D. Pune.The main stress of his lecture was on the research process.In his two hour session,Dr.Prasad explained how to conduct the research systematically.He also emphasised on the various research methodologies and data sampling techniques. Dr. Prasad also emphasized the need for research in  the core computer science field. Different research methodologies were also discussed with suitable case studies. He motivated the participants to involve themselves seriously in the scientific research process to deliver quality research projects.
The second session was delivered by Dr. B.V.Pawar.He is currently working as a Head of Department of Computer Science of North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon. The topic of his session was“Writing PhD thesis”. Initially , he elaborated a complete walk through of research process including the importance of literature review . Also provided guidelines for writing an effective thesis . His proposed work proved as a good case study for the participants. He also mentioned the importance of data analysis in research.
The last session of the first day was delivered by Dr. Ambuja Salgaonkar, from the computer science department, Mumbai University.She expressed her views on the various aspects of research starting from how to choose a research problem, how to take the research in the right direction, selection of guide. She gave directions on the following points   for  the  outcome of the thesis -

  • Open new area
  • Provide unifying framework
  • Resolve long pending questions
  • Thoroughly  exposé an area
  • Contradict existing knowledge
  • Experimentally validate theory
  • Develop new methodology
  • Develop new tool 

She gave guidance  regarding proposal writing which was appreciated by all.Dr.Salgaonkar also talked about the quantitative and qualitative research techniques and its proper usage.
Tuesday 23rd Feb 2010
The second day of the seminar started with paper presentation. Many participants like Prof.Bharati Yelikar, Prof. Nilesh Mahajan, Prof.Smita Padmannavar, Prof.Ajay Shinde etc. presented their research paper.Dr.M.S.Prasad and Dr. Salgaonkar critically analyzed these papers and helped the presenters for improvement. After each paper presentation there was question hour session.
Dr.Salgaonkar's topic for session - I was 'Glimpses of future research projects' in which she highlighted on research topics like ICT in education- automation of Examination, assessment and simulation. She also explained qualitative analysis of K-Steganography , K-mnemonics Telephone numbers, K-Probing Design and Analysis. she  gave directions for thrust  research areas like-

  • Robotic motion planning
  • subsequence analysis
  • New models of  Data Mining
  • She highlighted the following areas for researching in education
  • Modeling Humans for a Specific job
  • Automation of Selection Process
  • ICT in Education: Developing courseware
  • Developing Simulation Lab
  • Interaction modeling
  • Classification of Documents

Session – II was conducted by Dr.ArpitaGopal ,Director,Sinhgad Institute Of Management, Kondhwa centre ,Pune.She highlighted on “How to write  journal articles in computer science”.She explained the skills for writing abstract appropriately and also stressed on the importance of keywords.Dr.Gopal's session was interactive and she involved students in the discussion . She explained how research is important in our day to day life .
Prof. Ajay Shinde's topic for third session was 'Procedure oriented verses Object-oriented Programming languages'. This was his research topic and he explained his topic with systematic presentation. Numerous examples were taken to differentiate between the two paradigms. He Also discussed the distinguishing characteristics and elaborated the similarities and differences between the above mentioned paradigms.
The two day seminar ended with the valedictory function. The function was graced by Dr. M.S. Prasad ,Former Director ,IMED , Pune .Mrs. S. S. Shukla extended warm welcome to all the participants and also thanked them for making the Seminar a grand success.The certificates of participation were presented by Dr.M.S.Prasad to the delegates and students 82 students of the college registered for the seminar.
