Anti Ragging Committee
Anti-Ragging Cell should be one of the important parts of Educational Institution’s mechanism. As per the guidelines of UGC under the Act of 1956, which is modified as UGC regulations on curbing the menace of Ragging in higher Educational Institutions, 2009, establishment of Anti-Ragging Cell is very compulsory.
According to All India Council Technical Education (AICTE) notified regulation for prevention and prohibition of ragging in AICTE approved technical institutions vide No. 37-3/Legal/AICTE/2009 dated 01/07/2009, We have established the Anti-Ragging committee and Anti-Ragging Squad at Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), College of Engineering, Pune.
Anti -Ragging Committee is constituted in this college to prevent ragging and to take anti ragging measures as per the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court of India & UGC. An Anti-Ragging Committee is formed to address the issues concerning ragging. The following instructions are framed to prevent the menace of ragging and foster healthy interpersonal relations among students in the campus of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) College of Engineering, Pune. Ragging is strictly forbidden in or outside the college campus. All students shall familiarize themselves with rules/regulations/guidelines on code of conduct, anti-ragging measures and discipline College. All ‘newcomers’ should attend counseling sessions organized at the time of Principals address.
Functions of Committee:

1. To consider the complaints received from the students and conduct enquiry and submit report to the Anti- Ragging Committee along with punishment recommended for the offenders.

2. Oversee the procedure of obtaining undertaking from the students in accordance with the provisions.

3. To provide students with the information pertaining to contact address and telephone numbers of the person(s) identified to receive complaints/distress calls.

4. To create awareness among the students about Anti ragging. 6. To take all necessary measures for prevention of Ragging inside the Campus/ Hostels.
Depending on the nature and gravity of the guilt established by the Anti-Ragging Squad, award, to those found guilty, one or more of the following punishments,

1. Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.

2. Withholding/withdrawing scholarship/fellowship and other benefits.

3. Debarring from appearing in any test/examination or other evaluation process.

4. Withholding results.
-
5. Debarring from representing the institution in any regional, national or international meet, tournament, youth festival, etc.

6. Suspension/expulsion from the hostel.

7. Cancellation of admission.
-
8. Rustication from the institution for period ranging from one to four semesters.

9. Expulsion from the institution and consequent debarring from admission to any other institution for a specified period.

10. Provided that where the persons committing or abetting the act of ragging are not identified, the institution shall resort to collective punishment.
The college started the academic session of UG programme and celebrates the fresher’s day. At the time of Principals address, ‘welcoming’ new students to the college, and brief information is given to all freshers regarding ragging. Ragging is a practice that gives senior students an excuse to harass their junior counterparts and make them easy targets to satiate their own pleasures.
The students of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) College of Engineering are here by warned that they shall not indulge in “RAGGING”. If they are found guilty of ragging they are liable for the above mentioned punishment. The freshers / junior students are also hereby instructed that they should not respond to the calls from seniors, should not participate in any kind of party anywhere inside/outside the campus, even if ordered by the seniors and that, they have nothing to fear as the institution cares for them and shall not tolerate any atrocities against them.
Bharati Vidyapeeth Dhankawadi campus is ragging free, still all these measures have been taken to ensure that the freshers are able to pursue their studies without getting teased, insulted or in any way troubled by the seniors in the name of an obsolete, barbaric ritual.
Relevance:
Cell gives the students a safe and confidential platform to express their complaints regarding ragging. It aims to build a ragging free environment by instilling the principles of democratic values, tolerance, empathy, compassion and sensitivity to that students become responsible citizens and create an atmosphere of discipline by passing a clear message that no act of ragging in college premises.

OBJECTIVES:

To Plan Action for Building and Preserving a Culture of Ragging Free Environment in the institute.

To check the places like Hostels, Canteens, Classrooms and other places of student congregation, for any incidences of Ragging.

To keep a vigil and stop the incidences of Ragging.

To educate the students in the institute about Menace of Ragging and related Punishment Provisions.
