This is a 2 year course which involves course work, assignments, patient care in clinics and research through dissertation projects. Educative seminars, hands-on training sessions, update workshops and special lectures will be conducted by the School of Optometry. The medium of instruction for this post graduate course in Optometry will be English. Intake and allocation of seats - 20 seats Every year a total of 20 candidates will be admitted on full time/regular basis to first year M. Optom.
Objectives
To create post graduate Optometry teachers with strong academic and research background who will help develop the science of Optometry. They will be responsible and helpful to-

Develop expertise in assessment, evaluation, planning and intervention in achieving eye care needs of the Indian society.

Actively participate in community optometry programs to achieve the goals of Vision 2020 and the national program for prevention of blindness. Effectively organise and participate in vision screening eye camps to help control blindness.

Practice independently as a primary eye care practitioner and render eye care services for the benefit of the society.

Maintain collaborative relationship with members of other disciplines to improve health care.

Interest in life long learning for personal and professional advancement.

Tuition and other fees including deposits
Every student will have to pay the tuition and other fees and deposits as prescribed from time to time by Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University). University reserves the right to revise this fee structure.

In addition to this every student has to pay other fees, security deposit and examination fees as prescribed by the University from time to time.
Selection procedure for Admission to M.Optom.

Applications will be called for through an advertisement in the leading dailies every year. Applications must reach the Registrar, Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Bharati Vidyapeeth Bhavan, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, Pune 411030 before the specified date.

Candidates will have to apply on prescribed admission forms along with photo copies of final year mark sheet, degree certificates, work experience certificates, if any.

Candidates found eligible will be asked to appear for a Common Entrance Test of 25 objective type questions to be answered in 30 minutes. One hour group discussion session will also be organised in the School of Optometry, Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) Medical College, Pune. The faculty team appointed by the University will moderate the discussion session and also give marks to every candidate.

On the basis of marks secured in the common entrance test and the group discussion, a merit list of candidates will be put up on the notice board. All the eligible candidates will attend a counselling session with a committee appointed by the University.

Admissions to first year M.Optom. will be done on the basis of the merit list and counselling interview conducted by this committee of the University. Special consideration will be given to candidates who are optometry educators.

Selected candidates will be required to sign an undertaking in a prescribed form before they are given provisional admissions. The admitted candidates will have to pay all the fees immediately for that academic year.
