Profile

Presently, Dr. Shirish Ravan holds the helm at the EarthSight Foundation, which champions the cause of crafting a sustainable future through interventions at the grassroots level. Dr. Shirish Ravan’s work spans various critical domains, encompassing disaster management, biodiversity, food security, sustainable development, planetary defense, and using space and geospatial technologies to advance these crucial areas. He worked for 18 years in senior roles within the United Nations, where he served in key positions at both the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs and the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime in Vienna (Austria), Beijing (China) and Kabul (Afghanistan

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science
  • Master’s degree in Environmental Science.
  • PhD in Applications of satellite remote sensing in forest ecology and biomass estimation.

Dr. Shirish coordinated UN-SPIDER and contributed to the UN Committee for Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, providing policy advocacy and technical advisory services across 70 countries. He also served at ISRO, C-DAC, Maharashtra Remote Sensing Applications Centre, and Wildlife Institute of India, and is currently a Visiting Professor at institutions including IISER, Bharati Vidyapeeth, Symbiosis University, and the University of Central Lancashire.

Throughout his tenure, Dr. Shirish demonstrated dedication to leveraging space-based technologies to attain Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fortify disaster and climate resilience.

His scholarly contributions include over 50 publications in research journals and reports for the United Nations.
