At the Institute of Environment Education and Research, Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University (BVIEER), a remarkable transformation is taking place as the campus is being rewilded into a thriving ecosystem. What began 30 years ago on a site filled with construction debris has now blossomed into a biodiversity hotspot, home to over 100 bird species, more than 20 butterfly species, and a diverse array of native trees, shrubs, reptiles, and grasses.
This rewilding initiative has been powered by the enthusiastic efforts of students from the Prutha Club and NSS volunteers. A plantation drive was carried out on 14 August 2024. The campus nature trail now teems with life, from the elusive Asian Paradise Flycatcher to the captivating Grey Hornbill.
