The ESD Conference, held on 14-15 December 2022 at BVIEER Pune, was a culmination of the ESD
Program, bringing together experts and practitioners from across India. The two-day event focused
on education for sustainable development (ESD) and featured discussions on climate change,
biodiversity, spatial thinking, and consumerism. Keynote addresses were given by Dr. Yugal Joshi and
Dr. Ashish Kumar Panda, from NITI Aayog with Dr. Rob 'O' Donoghue from Rhodes University
contributing insights on transformative ESD actions. The conference saw participation from NCERT,
SCERTs, industry leaders, academia, and NGOs, who shared their eUorts in mainstreaming ESD. The
conference also highlighted the integration of technology and spatial thinking in localizing SDGs,
referencing BVIEER’s participation in the UNWGIC 2022. Over 120 participants from 60 institutions
attended, and the newly launched MISSION LIFE program was a key focus, with top officials from NITI
Aayog addressing the event online. The conference concluded with a panel discussion aimed at
integrating ESD into the national curriculum framework.
