BVIEER conducted a year-long training program at various places across India, training over 500+ teachers and equipping them with geospatial technology skills to address local challenges related to SDGs using open-source software through a smartphone. These teachers guided their school students in creating innovative projects.
Only 18 such projects were selected for presentation at the Second United Nations World Geospatial Information Congress (UNWGIC) on 10th October 2022 in Hyderabad. The event, supported by the UN-GGIM and the Department of Science and Technology, showcased efforts on themes like clean energy and climate action. Top three projects were awarded by DST. Mr. Stefan Schweinfest, Director of the United Nations Statistics Division, praised the students' efforts, emphasizing that SDGs are more than just a document—they represent an actionable plan for collaboration and problem-solving. He remarked that the projects showcased are exemplary for localizing SDG implementation.
