  • Survey, collection and develop database of plants of Maharashtra State.
  • Develop database on medicinal plants and firsthand ethno-botanical information for Maharashtra state.
  • Generating database on occurrence, vegetative propagation and cultivation on small scale for RET plant and preparation of distribution maps for Maharashtra state.
  • Standardize various parameters like propagation techniques, harvest time, state of plant maturity, drying conditions, and processing raw drugs, etc.

Worked in capacity of visiting faculty at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Information Technology and Biotechnology, Bharati Vidyhapeeth (Deemed to be University), Pune Satara Road campus, Pune. Taken letuctures, conducted practivals and exams for the subject Herbal Bitechnology for M. Sc. Bitechnology Semister IVof the years 2014 to 2018 for the period of four months (January to May). Also conducted practicals and practical exams of both BSc and MSc biotech students.

  • 7) “National Programme on Promoting Conservation of Medicinal Plants and Traditional Knowledge and Enhancing Health and Livelihood Security”. It is a joint project of study and Community Knowledge to develop Registers (CKR) and selection of 12 primary diseases which are easy to cure locally by using traditional knowledge documented in CKR. It also includes specialized training for the use of these formulations. Funded by UNDP (Rs. 20.00 Lakhs). Period 2007-2008.
  • 8) “Maharashtra Seed Centre”. Establishment of one central medicinal plant seed centre per state alongside a network of decentralized Medicinal Plants nurseries in selected sites distributed throughout the state, in order to supply genuine planting materials to medicinal plant user groups. Funded by UNDP (Rs. 18.00). Period 2005-2006.

 

Professional Competence

Taxonomist:
Criss cross seasonal visits to 14 MPCAs of 12 district of Maharashtra states. Each tour is of 15 days to 1.5 months duration for identification of plants especially medicinal plants used by local tribes. Collection and processing of herbarium specimens to prepare herbarium sheets (3200). Collection of raw drug samples and photo images of all possible parts of plants as well as habitat.

Ethnobotanist:
Collection, compilation and analysis of firsthand ethno-botanical data collected from all 12 district of Maharashtra state by personal interview, through Bare Foot Botanist, Village Biologist and organizing “Vaidoo Sammelana” in collaboration with state forest department. Compilation of more than 2000 ethnobotanical uses from 36 tribal communites.

Database:

  • 1) Developing and maintaining database of Plants of Maharashtra state including local names, description, distribution and phenology.
  • 2) Database of RET, Endemic, Traded and Negative list and prioritized plants for conservation concern including distribution.
  • 3) Seed Bank of Western Ghats, details of seed phenology and germination.
  • 4) Database for propagation techniques of medicinal plants of Maharashtra State.
  • 5) Digital image database with different plants and their plant parts and herbarium sheets.

Validation Chemometric Standardization & Development of simple identification techniques:
Thus, present work focuses on-

  • Correct botanical identification and authentication of selected medicinal plants, besides their popular/common names
  • Pharmacological and clinical validation of these plants using in-vitro biochemical assays and in-vivo animal models to ascertain their efficacy and safety with special reference to inflammation
  • Standardization by metabolomic approach using modern analytical techniques such as HPTLC, FTIR, HPLC, GC-MS etc. to ensure uniformity
  • Suggesting superior harvesting method and sites for raw materials, based on the quality and quantity of the desirable phytochemicals.
  • Development of simple chemometric techniques to identify the raw drugs.
