About Department

The department of Ophthalmology was Established in 1994. It is presently headed by Prof . Dr.Varsha Kulkarni, and has a full complement of teaching and non teaching faculty functioning as a single unit.

The vision of this department is to become a center of global excellence in the fields of academic training and research in ophthalmology.

Mission

The department also aims to achieve recognition as a major ophthalmic tertiary care center and to provide ophthalmic health services to the community, in keeping with the national perspective, through a focused effort to save, preserve and enhance vision using an optimal, holistic and humane approach.

Objective/goals

To set standards and to establish a base for outstanding teaching and research programs in ophthalmology
To lead and provide research programs in basic and applied clinical fields for all levels viz. undergraduate students / post graduate students and teaching faculty.
To provide the highest quality, accessible and cost-effective care for patients with ophthalmic disorders
To promote eye health education and disease awareness in the community
To actively participate in national programmes for the prevention and control of blindness
To envisage, anticipate and accommodate recent advances in ophthalmology and patient care through continuing medical education programmes

Highlights

The department has a well-equipped OPD complex and coordinated by efficient nursing staff. Patients can avail services for treatment for a range of minor ocular conditions to major surgeries such as vitrectomy and orbitotomy. Cataract surgery is available in form of affordable SICS as well as option of phacoemulsification and premium IOL surgery.
Apart from routine OPD, the department runs several specialty clinics headed by faculty expert in respective specialty. Each of the clinics has all standard as well as the latest state of the art diagnostic and therapeutic equipment required.
