Department of Mechanical Engineering

HOD's Message

Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest disciplines in the engineering fraternity. Mechanical Engineering can be divided broadly into four categories viz. Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Thermal Engineering and Allied courses which include latest interdisciplinary trends in Mechanical Engineering such as Nanotechnology, IOT, data Science, virtual reality etc. The department of Mechanical Engineering at BV(DU)COEP was started in 1986 and has a very successful alumni legacy.

Dr. K. B. SutarProfessor and Head

Department of Mechanical Engineering

The department runs B. Tech programme in Mechanical Engineering, M. Tech. programme in CAD/CAM and also Ph.D. programme in Mechanical Engineering. The curriculum of different programmes has been revised time to time as per the current needs of the industry and society. Due care is taken to include courses in all categories of Mechanical Engineering.

In the latest revision of curriculum for B. Tech. Mechanical in 2021, innovative things such as vocational courses, industry taught courses, MOOCs, project based learning etc. are made mandatory. To enhance the programming skills of the students, courses based on C, C++, PYTHON and MATLAB are included as part of practical courses. Weightage is given for participation of the students in social activities. Care has been taken that syllabi of GATE and Engineering Services Examination in Mechanical Engineering are covered in the curriculum.

Along with regular academics, the students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular, extra- curricular and sports activities conducted by the department through Mechanical Engineering Students’ Association (MESA) and by the institute at Bhartiyam, Institute Innovation Council (IIC), Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) etc. The students also participate in go-karting and SAE BAJA events.

The department has strong relationships with reputed industries which provide placement and internship opportunities to the students. It is my appeal to all budding engineers to come and join the department to make carries in core Mechanical Engineering, IT sector, Central/State Government services etc .for higher studies in the institutes of high repute at national and international level or for becoming entrepreneurs.
